The Simms Brothers Ltd Story

150-years.jpg

Simms Brothers Ltd is a well-established family run business with over 50 years’ experience of retailing agricultural parts and accessories.

our-story-shadow.jpg Brothers Jonathan and William Simms currently own and manage the business, originally founded by their grandfather, Thomas Alexander (T.A.) Simms. Based at 160 Gosford Road, Loughgilly, Co. Armagh, the business is located in the same workshop and forecourt site originally acquired by Thomas in 1969.

Where it all began!

Thomas Alexander (T.A.) Simms, the youngest in a family of 11 children, and coming from a farming background, initially worked in agricultural contracting, having worked the land and using knowledge he gained from owning his own fleet of machines, Thomas saw a need for a workshop/store facility, so he purchased the property and started the business to assist local farmers with routine maintenance, repairs and supplying spares.

As the business grew, Thomas began dealing in used agricultural machinery, particularly Nuffield Tractors that he purchased from local auctions and machinery sales in Scotland.  His passion and enthusiasm for British products, in particular the Nuffield and Leyland Tractors, has been the cornerstone of the business.

In later years, Thomas’ eldest son Kenneth took over the maintenance and repairs with his younger brother Henry joining him to look after the sales, purchasing and parts section. From small beginnings, the company and its expertise was growing.

By 1980, the company, now known as Ballygorman Engineering Works, held full Leyland Dealership status.  With the addition of other various dealerships as such Fiatagri and Valmet, business was flourishing.

Progress continued throughout the 1980s and 1990s, with Ballygorman Engineering Works supplying both new and second-hand parts throughout UK and Ireland.  The company continued to adapt to meet the ever-growing needs of the agricultural, construction and commercial sectors that manufacture bespoke engineering products and sells parts/components to the various sectors.

Our modern-day business!

In April 2015, Jonathan and William took over the business, known then as Simms Agri Parts, from their uncle an aunt, Henry and Roberta Simms. The brothers have extensive experience in a variety of roles and the various demands of running a business. They rebranded the company and are today trading as Simms Brothers Ltd.
